More about Braga Municipal Stadium
The Braga Municipal Stadium was implanted in the Dume Sports Park, on the northern slope of Monte Castro. Our implantation is the consequence of not having to make a "dam" to the water line that naturally runs through the valley. The alternative was to move it to the west, adjusting it to the hillside, like a Roman amphitheatre.
Today football is a spectacle, just like cinema, theatre and television, hence the option of making just two stands. Today nobody can stand watching a Peter Handke play in "zoom" behind the goals.
The roof was initially conceived as a long continuous canopy (see Siza /Expo), but due to constraints and travel, we chose to use the Inca bridges in Peru as a reference.
With a height of 40 metres, the stadium will be attached to two squares with the same height difference. In this way, the building can serve as an "anchor" for the organisation of the territory in the emerging expansion of the city to the North. It was the same twenty years ago to the South in the Carandá Market. Today, without romanticism, I am amputating it so that it does not die of gangrene.
