About Lezírias Bridge

Inaugurated on the 7th of July 2007 by the then Prime Minister José Sócrates, Lezírias Bridge crosses the Tejo and Sorraia Rivers.

One of the main objectives of this construction was to divert traffic from Lisbon and decongest the Vasco da Gama and 25 de Abril Bridges. The length of the Lezíria Bridge is 12 km. It is the 9th longest bridge in the world and the 2nd longest in Europe, second only to the also Portuguese Vasco da Gama Bridge.

400,000 m3 of concrete, 45,000 tonnes of steel, 3,000 tonnes of pre-stressing and 52,300 ml of piles were used in the foundations.
