About Caixa Geral de Depósitos

The need for construction arose in 1981 when the Board of Directors decided to concentrate CGD's services, located in some 26 buildings scattered around the city of Lisbon, in a single space.

After some work had been carried out, the official ceremony of laying the first stone took place on 15 July 1987, which marked the official start of the project to build CGD's new head office complex, which was completed in 1994.

After some setbacks and reformulations, the architect responsible for the architectural project did not doubt that this would be a landmark work for the future of Lisbon architecture, even stating that about "the quality of the work, time will speak for itself".
