What is the project about?

The LowC-Bionic aims to obtain structures with organic shapes in low carbon concrete, produced from 3D printing. This challenge presupposes the development of an advanced cement-based material that can be used in equipment of three-dimensional printing.

This project intends to optimise the following aspects:

— Rheology (the science of deformation of material) and properties of cement-based, multifunctional coloured and low carbon sustainable materials;

Typology, through computational processes, for the design of three-dimensional structures inspired by Nature;

— Obtaining bionic structures printed on low carbon concrete and micro concrete, which can react to the humidity of the environment through reversible chromatic changes.

The structures are expected to allow interactivity through built-in sensors, communicating with centralised systems and generating data that can be monitored and registered as Big Data.
